Welcome To Room 16’s Information Page!  Here is where you find the latest information about what is happening in Room 16.

                                Week of November 14-18, 2016

MATH:

Topic 4: Meanings of Multiplication will be the focus this week.  Please have your child practice, study, learn the multiplication facts.  Students did well on Topic 2 work.  Room 16 students will continue to revisit math skills, i.e. rounding and subtraction with regrouping, so that they have continued practice with the 3rd grade math skills.                 

 

SCIENCE:

Room 16 students will begin learning about the life cycle of a plant.  They will start by writing what they know about the life cycle of a plant.  As they continue on they will learn how to use facts and information from other sources (video, articles, lecture, etc) in their writing.

November 14-18, 2016–3rd Grade Canned Food Drive–please bring donations to Room 16.

November 21-25, 2016–Thanksgiving Holiday NO SCHOOL

                               Week of October 24-28, 2016

MATH:

Topic 1 Assessment will be Friday.  Please have your child practice rounding to 10 and to 100!

Coming up in Topic 2–Number Sense: Addition and Subtraction.  Students will continue to use rounding in more real world ways via estimation. They will also be learning addition and subtraction meanings and properties

 

SCIENCE:

Students will continue with their final art project showing the different parts of a plant and work on the life cycle of a plant.

October 24-28, 2016–Spirit Week!!

     *Monday, Oct. 24th: Crazy Hair day

     * Tuesday, Oct. 25th: Team Spirit Day–No hats please!

     *Wednesday, Oct. 26th: Hat/Pajama Day–NO slippers please! Students must wear their tennis shoes.

     *Thursday, Oct. 27th: Disney Gear Day

     *Friday, Oct. 28th: School Spirit/Halloween Costume Day–Wear the Bidwell colors or Bidwell t-shirt/sweatshirt or wear your Halloween costume–please not masks, weapons, or bloody costumes

 

  Week of October 17-21, 2016

MATH:

Students are coming to the end of Topic 1 this week.  Topic 1 Assessment will be next week.

Please check your child’s daily practice sheets for completeness.  If your or your child have any questions about the work or a certain problem, please have your child bring the practice sheet back to class so (s)he can get help during Correction/Collection time during math.

Students will also continue making multiplication flashcards.  They have already made cards for the 3’s and 4’s.  This week they will make flashcards for the 5’s and 6’s multiplication facts.  Please have your child practice daily.

SCIENCE

Students will continue with the life cycle of plants.  They will also begin work in their science workbooks to get more independent reading practice with expository text.

Thank you to those who sent headphones for the computers to school with their child.  We may have a solution, so the students that brought their headphones will be bringing them back home next week.

Thank you for continuing donations to our classroom.  The folders, tissues, disinfecting wipes, paper towels are much appreciated and used with care and thanks.   :-D

 

 Week of September 26-30, 2016

MATH:

Students will continue on with Topic 1 this week.  Please check with your child about practice sheets that are being sent home daily.  If they have any difficulties with the problems on the practice sheet(s), please have your child bring the practice back to school so (s)he can get help during Correction/Collection time during math period.           

SCIENCE:

Students will begin the Life Cycle of a flowering plant this week.  They will use their knowledge of the parts of a plant to help understand the life cycle stages.

DATES TO REMEMBER:

September 28th: Scholastic Book Orders due–please write checks out to: Scholastic Book Club

October 1st: Bidwell Clean-up Day 10am-1pm–please come out and give a helping hand!  Refreshments provided.

                                 Week of September 19, 2016

MATH:

Students have begun Topic 1 in math.  Topic 1 contains lessons on numeration: representing numbers, understanding number lines, counting on a number line, finding the halfway point on a number line, and rounding.  The 3rd Graders have also started making multiplication flashcards.  Please have your child practice the multiplication facts.

Students took home Reteach/Practice 1-1 today–if students have any questions about the work, they are to bring the page back to class so they can ask questions during Practice Check-In/Correction

SCIENCE:

Students have been working on learning the parts of a flowering plant and the functions of each part.  Parts of a Plant Quiz was returned to students today.  All of the students did VERY well on this quiz!  Way to go 3rd Graders!

The 3rd Graders will be taking a quiz on the functions of the plant parts on Friday, September 23.  Please ask them about the parts of plant and what the parts do for the plant.  Students will continue to work on this in class also.

READING:

Please have your child read at least 20 minutes each night and fill out the Reading Log sent home from Ms. Guerrero.
